This site is a dynamic collection of butterfly photography trip reports covering Mexico, Central and South America. Photographic checklists for various locations may be found in the Photo Checklist Index. Trip reports are in sequence by trip date.
The Photo Checklists are a growing resource where photographers can share their photos collected at various sites throughout the Andes. The sites selected are based on my personal enjoyment of being there – they are some of my favorite spots to spend time and to photograph butterflies. Many of the bird tours and eco-tourists visit them due to excellent habitat and comfortable places to stay. If you cannot identify photos you have taken from these locations, please send your photos to me, Kim at kimgrwd@sbcglobal.net, and I’ll be happy to help you with id’s. Then your shots will be added to the Photo Checklists so others will be able to id their photos, thereby increasing the species counts for each location.
If you have another location at mid elevation in the Andes you think would be a good addition, please let me know. I’m not including lowland locations, below 1000m, as those are mostly covered in our Butterflies of Southern Amazonia book. These Photo Checklists are an intermediate step to my eventual series of books I plan to do on butterflies of mid elevations of the Andes, but that is many years away. I am concentrating on elevations from 1000 to 3000 meters.
