Awake or Asleep?

Postby Kristopher on Thu Jul 14, 2011 10:17 am

I was 27 years old the first time I died.

I remember there was white everywhere.

There was war, and I felt alive.

But, really, I was dead.

Sometimes I think we live through things...

...only to be able to say that it happened.

That it wasn't to someone else, it was to me.

Sometimes we live to beat the odds.

I'm not crazy...

...even though they thought I was.

I live in the same world as everyone else.

I just saw more of it, as I'm sure you have.

I've seen life after my death...

...and I'm telling you this

because it's the only way...

Sometimes life can only really begin with the knowledge of death.

That it can all end, even when you least want it to.

The important thing in life is…

...that while you're alive, it's never too late.

No matter how bad things look...

...they look better Awake than they do asleep.

So…

What are you doing to wake up?

Maybe.

What's the difference, to you, in regards to either asleep or awake?

What makes you think that anyone is asleep? or that you are awake?

Good questions, Maive.

What are your thoughts on this? What's the difference between awake and asleep?

My thoughts are that I see people as either awake or asleep, yet let's not make this all about me, Ok? If you wish to play, please share your thoughts.

I'm not sure the comment about being awake is in relation to the comparison between the state of what we call awake versus the state of dreaming or asleep. IMO, this comment has always been made in relation to a supposed state of perhaps heightened awareness within what we call the awake state.

I could speak to either difference, but I think this notion needs clarification.

How? By any means available.

At some point in my life that meant seeking the help of a guru. Now it means to stick to what I know and keep my eyes open, see what the tide brings.

I often feel like Tom Hank's castaway. On a desert island trying to survive, talking to a volleyball, pondering on my long lost love.

If I had to pick three things to have on this island except a vehicle, communications or a woman, I would pick Michael Phelps, a gold medal and a fishing rod.

Why? To ride Phelps and make him swim to the mainland by hanging the gold medal in front of him with the rod. :ofc

Awake or sleep... I know I'm in deep sleep. But I remember. I remember a different life. And I want it back.

Either that or I'll start drinking. :chug

Wouldn't total acceptance of how you are in the moment be considered fully awake? Seems to me rejecting the moment or an aspect of the moment equates to being asleep.

Regardless, drinking is always advisable.

Awake or asleep?
Seems to me that pronouncing proudly that you are awake is yet another way to prove that you are somehow a superior being because you have had the good sense to wake up. I used to first be on a mission to wake the sleepers, then with great superiority decided that they weren’t worth waking up, then I became a little afraid of the sleepers because if they are woken prematurely then they get really pissy, because you woke them before they were ripe….on an on. What makes one certified to make that pronouncement?
Awake and asleep are purely subjective terms…again it depends on who you are, and where you stand. Some would say that the online seers are so awake and quantumly advanced that they have embraced the technology and become one with them…awake with the benefits of technology…fabulous. These same seers and Naguals…to some are so asleep they are in a coma…depends on your judgement of them and how they resonate to YOU, subjectively…we are all comparing these people to ourselves or to others, which seems to me a great waste of time and energy. Why compare yourself to anyone else? I would assume that you consider yourself awake…and others asleep? Why is that important to you? Why compare yourself with anyone? Seems like Sprirtual One-upmanship, ego in charge in order to not surrender to spirit completely, and also to feel superior to others. You are the only one that counts and getting caught up in this asleep or awake debate is a slippery slope. Just IMHO.

Interesting.

I'd have thought the first questions would be, "If you are going ot ask me what I'm doing to wake up, please define 'waking up,' or what that means to you." "What do you refer to as 'being asleep?'"

Oh well...

...and for those who were assertive and wanted to just write, they would state their own definition of awake and asleep, and then write about it.

Anyone?

The original question was, "What are you doing to wake up?" which makes an assumption in the same fashion as the attorney asking when did you stop beating your wife. That is, in order to answer, one must assume one is asleep. Perhaps the question ought to be rephrased.

Rephrase the question then.

For sitting in chat all day discussing these matters, it's interesting you've not shared on this topic other than to dissect the question. Fuck the question. Create your own question and get on with it!

You began the thread...it is not up to me to rephrase your question.

In my opinion, which corresponds with a statement within The Blue Cliff Record, there is no such thing as awakening...it's a concept that ultimately comes up and deludes people.

Fantastic thread! One things for sure, it's frustrating when people don't reflect what I want to see about myself. I can either stop looking in mirrors, or accept my reflection.

Thats a good one Aff exp I am not convinced that the issue is as cut and dry as that...reflections are everywhere whether you want to admit/see them or not, or if you do or dont like...is that the blockage to ego death I wonder?
