The Spirit of Zen

The spirit of Zen is the state of no-mind (mushin.) The no-mind is the mental state which is disturbed by nothing. The free state of mind is the mind of Zen.

I prefer Essential Zen, at least my interpretation of it, which is somewhat the opposite, despite the admonition to have no things in mind and no mind in things, which is similar to this quote.

I prefer, the opposite but with one caveat...and that is to be aware that one has things in mind and mind in things. To be fully in the moment requires, imo, mind being IN things. We are perceivers, as don Juan said, and as such, in order to perceive, mind is required. No mind=no perception.
Is that so?

I didn't see your comments prior to this, G.

Perhaps look at the first comment again: "The no-mind is the mental state which is disturbed by nothing."

It's still a mental state, thus there's perception. It just doesn't become disturbed, or attached to anything.

Perhaps read up more on essential zen in regards to no-mind, as it's the same thing.
