Thanks for your posts! When were you in VZ? How was your trip?

I visited Venezuela a couple of weeks ago (19-31 March 2016). My wife and I spent 4 days in the Coastal Cordillera (Rancho Grande), ascended Mt Roraima (5-day trek organized by a local tour company), had 1 day birding La Escalera (Sierra de Lema) and 2 days in Caracas. The country is a bit tricky to visit these days but our trip went without incident. The Roraima climb was amazing and we found most of the avian endemics; the Coastal Cordillera was less successful because of the drought, forest fires, and trail closures.

Thanks for your info. I thought VZ was in too much turmoil to visit now, glad to hear it went ok. So you camped up the mountain? What was the name of the tour company?

Yes, we camped five nights, including two on the summit. The company was called BEYKOVIC, C.A. (Agencia de Viajes, Turismo y Excursiones) led by Jorge Marincovich and based in Ciudad BolĂvar (bey_kovic@hotmail.com).
